Summrize ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Summrize mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the App. By using the App, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect and How We Collect It

We collect the following types of information:

• Device Information: When you first open the App, a unique device identifier is automatically generated and stored on our servers. This identifier is used solely to associate your account with your device. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or other personal contact information.
• Content You Submit: When you use the App to summarize or transcribe content, we collect the text, URLs, audio files, images, and documents you submit. This content is collected when you actively choose to submit it through the App's interface.
• Usage Data: We automatically collect transaction history (summaries and transcriptions you have generated), subscription status, and credit usage to manage your account and provide the service.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• To provide the summarization and transcription service: Your submitted content is processed to generate summaries, key points, transcripts, and other insights.
• To send your content to a third-party AI service for processing: As described in detail in Section 4 below, the content you submit is sent to OpenAI for AI-powered summarization and transcription.
• To manage your account: Your device identifier, subscription status, and credit balance are used to manage your account and provide access to features.
• To store your history: Summaries and transcripts are stored in your transaction history so you can access them later.
• To improve the App: We may use aggregated, non-identifying usage patterns to improve and optimize the App experience.

4. Sharing Data with Third-Party AI Service

To generate summaries and transcriptions, we share the content you submit with a third-party AI service. Before your content is processed for the first time, the App will ask for your explicit consent. Here are the details:

What data is shared

The following user-submitted content is sent to the third-party AI service:

• Text content you type or paste into the App
• Text extracted from URLs, documents, and images you submit
• Transcribed audio from audio and video files you submit

We only send the content strictly necessary to process your request. We do not send your device identifier, account information, subscription details, or any other personal information to the third-party AI service.

Who receives the data

Your content is sent to OpenAI, L.L.C. ("OpenAI"), located in the United States. OpenAI provides the AI models that power the summarization and transcription features of the App. You can review OpenAI's privacy practices at openai.com/privacy.

Why the data is shared

Your content is shared with OpenAI solely to generate AI-powered summaries, key points, and transcriptions. Without sending your content to OpenAI, the App cannot provide its core functionality.

How OpenAI protects your data

We use OpenAI's API services, which are governed by OpenAI's API data usage policies. Under these policies, content submitted through the API is not used by OpenAI to train or improve their models. OpenAI retains API inputs and outputs for a limited period (up to 30 days) for abuse and misuse monitoring, after which it is deleted. OpenAI implements industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit and at rest, to protect data processed through their API.

5. User Consent for Data Sharing

Before the App sends any of your content to OpenAI for the first time, you will be presented with a clear consent prompt within the App explaining that your content will be shared with OpenAI for processing. You must provide explicit consent before any data is transmitted. You may withdraw your consent at any time by discontinuing use of the App. If you do not consent, the App will not send your content to OpenAI and the summarization and transcription features will not be available.

6. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely on our servers. Uploaded files are stored in encrypted cloud storage (AWS S3). We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest. Summaries and transcripts are retained in your transaction history for your convenience.

7. Data Retention

• On our servers: We retain your transaction history and summaries as long as your device is registered with the App. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.
• By OpenAI: Content sent to OpenAI through their API is retained by OpenAI for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring purposes, after which it is deleted. OpenAI does not use API data to train their models.

8. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: You may request a copy of all data we hold about you.
• Correction: You may request correction of inaccurate data.
• Deletion: You may request deletion of your data from our servers.
• Withdraw consent: You may withdraw your consent for data sharing with OpenAI at any time by discontinuing use of the App.
